The announcement of Advanced Micro Devices' plan to build a "chip-fab" plant at the Luther Forest Technology Campus has caused a ripple effect of positive momentum among potential suppliers in the area. According to a recent Business Review article, even companies that don't already make products that AMD wants can learn to do so if they have high-tech manufacturing skills. There is also the exciting prospect that AMD's initiative may actually attract other chip makers. "Typically, one breeds others. They tend to cluster together," said Gary Balfour, president of Solid Sealing Technologies, which produces sealed devices that can be used in semiconductor production.
